Custom WooCommerce Development and Brand Integration for Hobby Discs
Project Overview
In this project, I leveraged my expertise in custom WordPress development and e-commerce architecture to build a high-performance, fully integrated online storefront for Hobby Discs, a new disc golf brand. The goal was to create a seamless, fast-loading shopping experience that bridged physical inventory with print-on-demand merchandising, all while establishing a strong, scalable digital foundation.
Project Details
Hobby Discs required a robust platform capable of handling diverse product types (physical sporting goods and custom apparel) while offering an intuitive user interface for a niche market. I took on the challenge of designing, developing, and launching a custom WooCommerce website in under three weeks. The project demanded a delicate balance of performance optimization and dynamic e-commerce functionality, alongside the integration of premium marketing tools to drive initial brand growth.

Custom E-Commerce Architecture: Developed a bespoke storefront using the Divi framework, enhanced with Divi Shop Builder and Divi WooCommerce Extended. This allowed for fully customized product pages, a streamlined cart, and a frictionless checkout experience tailored to the brand’s aesthetic.

Hybrid Fulfillment Integration: Seamlessly integrated standard WooCommerce inventory management for physical discs alongside Printful Integration for automated, on-demand apparel and merchandise fulfillment.

Dynamic Performance Optimization: Configured LiteSpeed Cache to balance fast page loads with dynamic WooCommerce cart stability. After initial diagnostics achieved a 100/100 PageSpeed score, caching protocols were strategically optimized to ensure real-time cart accuracy (such as address modifications and live inventory updates) was not compromised by aggressive static caching. The final deployment maintained stable, competitive performance metrics (80 Desktop / 55 Mobile) while prioritizing a flawless, error-free checkout flow.

Strategic Product Taxonomy & Filtering: Engineered a custom product attribute framework to enhance the browsing experience without overwhelming the user. Rather than cluttering the UI with overly complex filters (Speed, Glide, Turn, Fade, and Color), I curated the filterable attributes down to “Stability” (Overstable, Stable, Understable). This streamlined backend product management and created a highly intuitive, user-friendly shopping experience for both beginners and pros.

Advanced Marketing & SEO Setup: Implemented Yoast SEO and Google Site Kit to immediately capture organic search traffic. Configured MailPoet Premium for robust email marketing automation and utilized AltText.ai for automated, accessibility-compliant image tagging.

Secure & Flexible Payments: Integrated WooCommerce PayPal Payments, offering users versatile checkout options including Venmo and “Pay Later” functionalities, all secured behind Cloudflare Turnstile as a privacy-preserving CAPTCHA alternative.
Impact The new website successfully supported a high-traffic launch on April 17, processing seamless transactions from day one. The SEO and performance optimizations yielded immediate results, with the site successfully capturing organic Google search traffic and converting it into paid orders within the first month. The hybrid dropshipping and physical inventory system allowed the brand to scale its merchandise offerings without upfront overhead.
Client Feedback The custom build provided the client with a powerful, enterprise-grade e-commerce engine, successfully establishing their digital footprint and processing continuous direct and organic sales immediately upon launch.
